MALAYSIA RETAIL CHAIN ASSOCIATION (MRCA) HOSTS SPECTACULAR
CHINESE NEW YEAR DINNER IN CELEBRATION OF THE DRAGON YEAR
24th Jan 2024, Petaling Jaya – The Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) organized
its grand Chinese New Year Celebration, themed “Enter The Dragon” in honor of the
auspicious Dragon Year.
This exclusive event took place on Wednesday, the 24th of January 2024, at One World
Hotel, Petaling Jaya, bringing together prominent figures, industry leaders, and
members of the retail community to usher in the Lunar New Year with joyous festivities.
The event welcomed over 1,350 guests, all gathered to celebrate this joyous occasion
together.
According to the Co-Organizing Chairperson of the MRCA CNY 2024 Dato’ Alex Wong and
Mr. Brian Tham, “As the premier association representing the retail sector in Malaysia,
MRCA’s Chinese New Year Dinner serves as a platform for fostering camaraderie, building
strategic partnerships, and celebrating the shared successes within the retail industry.
This year’s event is particularly significant as it aligns with the symbolic and energetic
spirit of the Dragon Year, signifying strength, prosperity, and good fortune.”
Key Objectives of the Chinese New Year Celebration within MRCA:
Networking Opportunities: The dinner provides an exclusive setting for members of the
Malaysia Retail Chain Association to network with fellow industry professionals,
fostering collaboration and relationship-building. This serves as a catalyst for future
partnerships and collaborations within the retail community.
Cultural Exchange: Embracing the rich cultural diversity of Malaysia, the Chinese New
Year celebration acts as a bridge for cultural exchange among MRCA members. This not only enhances mutual understanding but also strengthens the unity within the retail community, transcending cultural boundaries.
MRCA’s Chinese New Year Dinner was privilege to have a Guest of Honor to be to grace
this auspicious occasion and he is non-other than the Minister of Transport, YB Tuan
Anthony Loke. MRCA President Dato’ Sharan Valiram commented that it was YB’sattendance made it even more special to all Retail Members of the Association and its Invited Guest. What a great way to start the beginning of the Year of the Dragon.
During the night, the MRCA Branding Education Charity Foundation donated RM25,000
to the Ti-Ratana Welfare Society Malaysia – Bentong Building Fund in support of their cause. The MRCA Branding Education Charity Foundation Chairman, Datuk Seri Nelson Kwok; MRCA Branding Education Charity Foundation Founder Chairman, Dato’ Tay Sim Kim; MRCA Branding Education Charity Foundation Trustees, Dato’ Eddie Choon; Datuk
Albert Chiang; Datuk Lee Hwa Cheng; Dato’ Liaw Choon Liang; Datuk Seri Garry Chua;
Ms. Shirley Tay, and MRCA President, Dato’ Sharan Valiram, presented a mock cheque to
the Founder and Advisor of Ti-Ratana Welfare Society, Most Venerable Datuk K. Sri
Dhammaratana.
The CNY Night was a memorable and significant occasion, fostering unity and
